Coin flip

Press Flip, or tap the coin. The coin lands on heads or tails; the result is read out for screen readers too. The tally counts heads, tails and your current streak. Reset it whenever you like.

How the draw works

Every result comes from crypto.getRandomValues, your browser's cryptographic random generator, with rejection sampling so that every slice, face and number has exactly the chance it shows. The winner is decided before the animation starts; the spin only reveals it.

Questions and answers

Is an online coin flip fair?

This one is. Each flip is a single draw of 0 or 1 from your browser's cryptographic random generator, so heads and tails are exactly 50/50 and every flip is independent of the last.

Why did I get five tails in a row?

Streaks are normal. In 100 flips, a run of five or more of the same side happens most of the time. The coin has no memory.
