Name picker wheel
One name per line. Add *2 after a name to give it two chances. Spin, and the pointer picks a winner.
Name *3 = three chances
Last picks
Weighted and duplicate entries
Write a weight after a name to give it a bigger slice: “Lina *3” or “Lina x3” gives Lina three chances, drawn as a slice three times as wide. Weights go from 1 to 20.
Duplicate lines stay as separate slices, so typing a name twice works too. Clean up removes duplicates, so skip it when they are on purpose.
Classroom mode
Classroom mode hides everything except the wheel, the Spin button and the winner, in type large enough to read from the back of the room, and goes fullscreen where the device allows it. Space spins, Esc leaves.
Teachers use it to choose who answers next, the order of presentations or a helper of the day. With “Remove winner” ticked, every student is picked once before anyone is picked twice.
Sharing a list
Share list copies a link with your names packed after the # sign. Browsers never send that part to a server: whoever opens the link gets the same wheel, built in their own browser. Very long lists make very long links, so for a full class register it is simpler to keep the list on your own device.
How it works
- Type or paste names, one per line. Pasted a messy list from a spreadsheet or a chat? Press Clean up to strip numbering, bullets, blank lines and duplicates.
- Press Spin, tap the wheel, or press the space bar while the wheel is focused.
- Read the winner on the ticket. Tick “Remove winner” to draw each name only once; “Put back” undoes the last removal.
- Press Share list to copy a link that opens this wheel with the same names, or Classroom mode to fill a projector screen.
Questions
Is the wheel really random?
Yes. The winning slice is chosen before the wheel moves, with your browser's cryptographic random generator and rejection sampling, so every slice has exactly the chance its size shows. The spin animation only reveals the result.
Can I make one name more likely?
Yes: add *2, *3 and so on after the name (up to *20). The slice grows to match, so what you see is the real chance.
How many names can I add?
Up to 500. Past about 60 names the labels get small, so the winner is always repeated in large type next to the wheel.
Can I share the wheel with my class?
Press Share list and send the link. The names travel inside the link itself; nothing is uploaded or stored on a server.
Are my names saved?
They stay in this browser only (localStorage), so the list is still there next time. Clearing the site data removes them.
Does it work offline?
Once you have opened Coinroll, the pickers keep working without a connection, and you can install it as an app from the browser menu.
